Mathematics
Picture a school where all children are confident mathematicians, where encouragement and support is given and where challenge is not something to be afraid of. Picture a school where the children love to solve problems and can draw on their experiences, knowledge and skills to do so. Where they enjoy experimenting and can understand the importance of maths in their everyday lives.
At Wraxall, we firmly believe that every child can be successful in maths. Our mastery curriculum aims to inspire, support and challenge all pupils to become confident and inquisitive mathematicians.
The aims of our Maths curriculum are for pupils to:
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of number and the number system, including through varied and frequent practice
- Develop a conceptual understanding, to recall and apply known facts
- Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, spotting patterns and using mathematical language
- Solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of contexts, using trial and improvement to investigate and explore
Our teaching follows the White Rose Maths sequence of learning. We use a variety of manipulatives and pictorial representations within lessons to encourage flexibility and which act as a ‘toolkit’ for pupils to support their learning. We are always thinking about how we can provide further maths enrichment opportunities throughout the school year.
